Persistent Mating Induced Endometritis (pmie): an Emerging Reproductive Disease in the Mare – Acupuncture Interpretation and Therapy

چکیده
Persistent Mating Induced Endometritis (PMIE) is a pathological condition of mares incapable of clearing the transient physiological inflammatory reaction produced in the uterus after artificial insemination. Fifty nine (59) estrus cycles of mares presenting this condition were randomly treated with Acupuncture (n=21), Oxytocin (n=25) or Placebo (n=13). The quantity of fluid was reduced in all group but Oxytocin reduced the amount of uterine fluid more than Placebo (p<0,01) and Acupuncture more than Oxytocin and Placebo (p<0,01). Both the mares treated with acupuncture and Oxytocin showed an increased pregnancy rate compared to Placebo mares tough Acupuncture showed a significant increase of the pregnancy rates compared with Oxytocin (76,2 vs 20,0%). In our study, the treatment with acupuncture was able to reduce fluid in uterus and to increase pregnancy rates more than the other two groups (p<0.01).

How to Maximize the Chances of Breeding Successfully From the Older Maiden Mare
Reduced fertility associated with fluid accumulation has been recognized for many years in broodmares. This subfertility is caused by an unsuitable environment for the developing conceptus within the uterus, and in some cases, the ensuing endometritis persists and causes early regression of the corpus luteum (CL). Persistent mating-induced endometritis has come to be recognized as a major reaso...
متن کاملHow and When to Treat Endometritis With Systemic or Local Antibiotics
The decision to use antibiotics for the treatment of a reproductive problem in a mare is not always clearcut or cookbook. Factors that may influence that decision include current duration of the pathology/ infertility, previous treatment, previous infertility, previous experience, or even pressure from the owner to get the mare pregnant. One of the key factors in treating endometritis is accura...
متن کاملPost-breeding endometritis in the mare.
Post-breeding endometritis is a major cause of subfertility in the mare. Endometritis is a normal event in the immediate period after mating, but the presence of ultransonographically visible uterine fluid more than 12 h later is thought to be evidence of uterine pathology. In mares that are free of venerally transmitted endometritis, treatment is aimed at removing the intraluminal fluid. If th...
متن کاملEvaluation of therapeutic effects of a 5-day intrauterine infusion of 6% Eucalyptus globulus oil solution on mares with experimentally induced endometritis with Streptococcus zooepidemicus
Endometritis is one of the major causes of infertility in mares. The present study was conducted to evaluate intrauterine infusion of Eucalyptus globulus oil as treatment for mares with experimentally induced endometritis. Mares (n=8) were synchronized using two injections of PGF2α (10 mg) 14 days apart. All mares were inoculated with a live culture of 5 × 106 CFU S. zooepidemicus in the dioest...
متن کاملEmbryo transfer in competition horses: Managing mares and expectations
Embryo transfer (ET) is an accepted and successful technique for obtaining foals from mares without interrupting their competition careers. Recent research, however, suggests that the potential of factors including heat, exercise, repeated embryo flushing and repeated manipulation of the reproductive cycle using exogenous hormones to have a negative impact on fertility may have been underestima...
